Goji berry planting

Goji plants prefer lot of sun, so it is best to plant them in a place that is lit by the sun all day. Planting is done from 20.04. - until late fall. Plants need more watering if you plant them over the summer.

The most suitable land is that with a pH of 6.5 and above. Certainly they are not planted with pine, because it creates an acid soil. Do not plant them with the pine, because it creates an acid soil.

Goji berries should be planted in holes the size of 40x40x40 cm at a distance of approximately 1 m from each other. At the bottom of the pit, put well decomposed manure or dehydrated manure into pellets). Bring back excavated soil on fertilizer to keep depth of approximately 15-20 cm, and put the substrate under the seedlings (humus with the higher pH value).

We put a few substrates with the seedling, and fill up the rest. We water well the whole area we dug. We can put a stick with the plant and tie it easy. When the plant is young, it must be watered regularly. We recommend foliar nutrition of plants twice per month. Fertilization of plants (surface) is required each fall and spring.

Tips for Goji plant pruning

In the summer when it is sunny, and the water temperature is appropriate to its needs for growth and development, Goji grows rapidly. When it would not be circumcised, Goji tree would seem ugly, with poor structure and form and it would reduce the yield.

In Ningxia province in China (Goji plant home), Goji tree is traditionally trimmed to form of an umbrella. In recent years, there are two new models to improve crop. These two models are the model with three levels and a cylindrical model.

Goji plants pruning is a key factor in the development of the plant.

Here are some tips:

Pruning in the first year

  • a. Leave the most healthy young shoot as the main hull. Remove all side shoots below 50 cm.
  • b. When they reach a height of 60 cm, remove the tip of the main stem to help the growth of lateral branches.
  • c. For each new lateral branch, which has a 45-degree angle from the main stem, remove them. Leave 3-4 lateral shoots from an angle of 45 degrees from the main stem.
  • d. Since all the remaining lateral shoots grow up and reach 30 cm in length, from the tip if the main stem where the old tip off that grew there which grow up, leave the largest stem in the second year. If the top of the main stem, where old tip is removed, there it grows up, leave the largest stem in the second year.
